The Immortal Body: The Way of Spiritual Awakening and Physical Regeneration by Jia Senghe

The Immortal Body
Excerpts from the book:
  • Merging spirit with essence this is the ultimate practice.
  • Primal essence is aroused through desire yet without attachment to that very same desire.
  • Build the generative energy using the breath like a bellows stoking a fire.
  • Breathe with awareness as generative Qi is spread throughout the body enlivening and making it whole.
  • To refine and regenerate the body bring the awakened Qi up the spine to refresh and revitalize the brain. This is called the *microscosmic orbit.
The Taoist quest for immortality is one of the soul being in total harmony with the body. The quest is for the development and transformation of physical body into an eternal vehicle for the soul.

Convert the lower into the higher using both miind and breath. Keep them together in your awareness and the coversion is certain.

Contract the anal muscles and the energy of life will be forced upwards to nourish the glands in the brain. Once this process begins to happen on its own, the adept is well on the way to becoming immortal.

*The microcosmic orbit is a practice utilized by Taoists that involves breathing, meditation and circulation of energy throughout the body. As a circular path it begins in the lower belly on the inhalation moves up the spine and then down the front on the exhalation until it reaches the paraneum. From there it can be repeated as many times as desired. Visualization is used to enhance the process.

The microcosmic orbit begins in the navel. On the inhalation the energy moves up the back intersecting each center in turn until it reaches the crown. On the exhalation the energy moves down the front until it reaches the navel where the inhalation begins the process again.
This can be repeated until after a certain number of cycles the orbit develops a momentum of its own.

In Qigong practice all upward movements are aligned with the in-breath while all downward movements are aligned with the out-breath. Inhale up. Exhale down.

Primal Jing Restoration and the Tao

To regenerate the body the Primal Jing must be refined. This is called restoring the original template. In order to refine the Jing, it must first be secured.

This is possible only when the lower gate (anal canal) has been sealed and the Qi does not leak out. Then the energy can become secured and used for circulation.

From the base of the spine the energy (Jing qi) must be moved upward through the central channel and the Jing will automatically refine itself along with the body.

When human beings copulate in a skillful and conscious manner, the Yin essence merges with the Yang essence and they co-mingle resulting in the refinement that nourishes the whole body. This is called Dual Cultivation.

In order to refine and regenerate the body the Primal Jing must first be aroused. Arouse the Jing many times without ejaculation or semen loss and bring it toward the summit. Using the breath, bring the energy into the crown of the head where it nourishes the cells of the brain. This can be done with a partner in dual cultivation practice or solo using imagination and/or physical stimulation.

Using the breath bring the energy into the crown of the head from where it can be directed. Rotate the eyes to expand the energy and then using the gaze, direct it anywhere in the body for the purpose of restoring the original templates.

Using the inner gaze smile into the organs one at a time making them to abide together, nourishing their functions. Wherever the eyes are directed, the energy will follow and regeneration occurs.

Masterful yogis all refine the body by uniting the spirit and breath with the mind. Spirit emerges in stillness, while mind and energy become stable in meditation creating tranquil energetic awareness. Tranquil awareness gives rise to expansion of spirit which becomes luminous during cultivation.

In order to cultivate the spirit it is necessary to arouse the Jing or primal essence. Once the primal essence is aroused it must be guided with both mind and breath.

Close off the anal muscle and guide the essence with mind and breath. Then relax the body and sit in a calm tranquil state and the true spirit will emerge.

Embrace the spirit with the mind and the mind with the breath. Then the body will become refined and radiant.

Merging the spirit with Primal Jing, this is the ultimate practice. Jing is increased through sexual attraction and stimulation, desire, meditation, nutricious foods, proper rest and tonic herbs.

Build desire then use the breath and mind to bring it into the central channel. Then spread the desire-qi throughout the body using movement, postures and stretching in harmony with the breath. After that be aware of all existence as a manifestation of divine reality.

Merge desire with this awareness and you will enter the gate of ultimate consciousness where Primal Jing and spirit are of one accord.

Lao tzu said: “I must suffer greatly because of the fact that I have a body. If I did not have a body how could there be any cause for suffering?”

From this it can be seen that form and matter are conducive to illness, degeneration and decay. The need to meet physical and emotional needs are examples of form and matter. When efforts succeed to meet these needs there is joy and relief. When efforts fail to meet these needs there is suffering and despair.

If one contemplates this in peace one can see that only formlessness can avoid suffering. Formlessness is emptiness. Emptiness ends suffering through non-attachment and non-resistance. So that when there is pain, the mind does not dwell on it but gives it space to transform itself through the meditation process.  Jia Senghe, 2012

Three Point Spiritual Vitality Combinations that Benefit the Immortal Body

Point series #1: GV16, CV4, GV1

Point series #2: CV1, GV20, CV17

Point series #3: K1, GV26, CV2

Each combination of points activates the Du and Ren channels (Governing and Conception vessels) that create the awakening of Qi awareness and inner self-knowledge. Increased spiritual understanding and consciouness becomes evident as the points are stimulated regularly.

After stimulating a combination, breathe and meditate with sensations and vibrations. Sensations correlate with the expansion of spiritual awareness as vibrations awaken new neural pathways in the brain that nourish the immortal body.

The process is as follows: Stimulate each point for 10 seconds. Rest in meditative awareness of sensations and vibrations for 10 minutes then repeat the cycle up to 3 times per combination. This constitutes one round of practice. Do up to 3 rounds in one week.

The Nine Points in this series are used by transcedents to secure and deepen the Jing, Qi and Shen of their immortal bodies. Only advanced adepts who have turned their backs on the world know about them and use them.
